Perry was so impressed that he even helped develop the remix

Line of Events

In 1980s Indiana, a group of young friends witness supernatural forces and secret government exploits. As they search for answers, the kids uncover a series of extraordinary mysteries. Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey, has said that the Stranger Things season 4 remix of Journey’s 1980s hit “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)” was done pretty much the way he originally wanted it to be in the 1980s, but it lacked the technology. In several episodes, people are seen “interrupting” someone who is talking on a two-way or CB radio – that is, one person is talking/transmitting, and another person transmits to interrupt, and then the other person hears the interruption and stops transmitting.

Eleven: Friends Don’t Lie

This has been done several times on the kids’ CB radios and on radios used by the police. These radios – the CB and police radios from the era of the show – don’t work like that. If you’re transmitting and someone else is transmitting, you won’t hear them. The opening titles and fonts of Stranger Things mimic the grain and look of the opening credits of 1980s TV shows.

ET, Poltergeist, that kind of thing

Featured in FoundFlix: Stranger Things (2016) Ending Explanation + Season 2 Clues (2016). Stranger Things (Title Sequence & Ending Theme) Written and performed by Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein. There’s no reason, story-wise, for Stranger Things to be set in the ’80s. But the ’80s vibe—the rotary phones, the chain-smoking, Winona Ryder—is there to give you a sense of the inspiration for this movie, which is pretty much every supernatural movie from the ’80s that was about kids.

What’s wonderful is how spot-on this homage is

It’s not just the clothes and the hair, but the acting style, the approach to the story, the structure, all of it stays true to its inspiration. You’ve got the geeky kids, the excited, insecure teens, the monster, the mysterious guy with the power, the bad science/government people, the conflicted investigator, the crying mom. You could say that this whole season is just a pastiche of recycled material, and I wouldn’t disagree, but it really feels less like a copy and more like something from that era, as if the writers fell into a coma in 1985, woke up, and got to work. While it doesn’t have the elevated style of Spielberg’s films that are a primary influence, it does have the likeability factor.

The story is still gripping and fun, the acting is excellent, and the film has enough laughs and tears to satisfy
