Line of Events

The jackal is an elusive killer who earns his living by hitting for the highest fee. He soon meets a tough British intelligence officer who tracks him down in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe. “Day of the Jackal”; The novel was set in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on then French President Charles de Gaulle. The show shifts the setting to the present day. Spy/spy/assassin movies have always been my absolute favorite, from my earliest memories of James Bond to Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne, movies like Shooter, Day of the Jackal (the original) and The Jackal, Leon the Professional and the list goes on.

This is just another great series in a long list of great shows. With Eddie Redmayne in the lead and he is seriously phenomenal, this show is great. Having worked with guns most of my life, been around guns all my life, and personally hold firearms licenses – it’s very easy to see that they brought in subject matter experts and military people to consult on this show. It definitely creates an authenticity… which is pretty darn nice to see. The entire cast seems to get along pretty well…

I actually thought she was terrible

I first saw Lashana Lynch in the latest James Bond and to be honest I didn’t think her performance was anything special. Unlike previous actors of color (if that was the intention) and let’s go there, she fell way short of the mark compared to the excellent Halle Berry or even the legendary Grace Jones. She felt wooden, flat, uninspiring, frankly worthless and talentless. But I thought maybe she just sucked James Bond, “give it to her again”. But 5 episodes less…it just sucks.

Holy shit, Thandiwe Newton IS FANTASTIC!!!

I don’t know what her job was before acting, but she might want to consider going back to it. I think the casting choice for Lashana Lynch was honestly bad. Personally, Idris Elba would be an extremely good choice as an MI6 agent. If you need a colorful Brit, Christine Adams is great! So many great options and they chose a cardboard cutout.

If you can basically ignore the completely hopeless Lashana Lynch, the show is great. It’s unfortunate that it will be a mini-series and not a multi-season show that would be something special. I think Eddie Redmayne should seriously consider other espionage movies and TV shows because he is fascinating to watch and this show would get a 10/10 if it weren’t for Lynch’s terrible casting choices. New series “Silo”; is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres of the month.
